2022 Reading Goals

I know that goal setting is not for everyone, but I find it incredibly motivating to reflect on my habits and set goals based on what I hope to accomplish. However, my goals for 2022 are going to look different from my goals for previous years because I am ditching genre-based goals. In 2022 I need to simplify my goals so I can better prioritize what I want to read and allow flexibility for my inner mood reader.

Read 100 Books

The past two years I have read over 200 books after setting initial goals of 75 and 100 books respectively. I fully expect I can read 200 books again, but I don’t need that kind of pressure, so once again I will set my goal at 100 books on Goodreads and The Storygraph and increase it along the way if I want.

Read Diversely

It is so important to read own voices & books by authors with different backgrounds. I started making a conscious effort to do so mid-2020, and it has led to richer and more impactful reading experiences, so I will continue this goal in 2022.

Finish The Wheel of Time Series

Wheel of Time is a massive fantasy series with 14 books. I’ve already read the first 3, so I just have 11 to go! I can meet this goal if I keep reading one WoT book per month.

Complete the 12 Challenge

On Instagram, I’ve collected a list of 12 reads recommended by 12 friends to read throughout the year. While a lot of my bookstagram friends have similar reading tastes to me, there are a few books on my list that are not genres I’m used to reading. This challenge and my IRL book club are the main ways I’ll be reading outside my comfort zone this year.

Keep Up With ARCs & Netgalley

I have quite a few backlist eARCs hiding on my Kindle, so I want to clear up that list. I also want to make sure I don’t go crazy with requests and only request books I’m truly interested in reading so I can get ARCs read and reviewed on time… or at least post reviews during the publication month.

Manage My Bookshelves

My bookshelves at home are currently overflowing capacity, and it’s driving me crazy! There are several steps I will take to get my shelves under control: Only buy auto-buy authors & loved books. Read my shelves. Take advantage of the library & Kindle Unlimited. Unhaul frequently by listing on PangoBooks.

Finish 5 Owned Series

I recently tallied the number of series I own that are unfinished or not even started. I have at least 15 series on my bookshelves that I need to finish reading! I want to read at least 5 of those series, but hopefully I’ll read more! This should also help with my previous goal or managing my bookshelves.

That’s it! What are your reading goals for 2022? Let me know in the comments!
