SYNOPSIS
A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…
The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.
Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all–the Crown Prince Aldrik–she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.
MY THOUGHTS
This book is a hidden gem that is much loved by its fans. A couple friends had been encouraging me to read this series for MONTHS before I finally picked it up, and at first I wasn’t sure it would live up to the hype. This book started off with a few familiar YA fantasy tropes (including multiple love interests), but once this book hit a big twist the story took off in an exciting and unexpected direction.
Vhalla is a great heroine as a library apprentice who discovers a hidden power, which garners her lots of new attention (both good and bad). This book gives a complete overlook of what Vhalla’s life is like before her grand adventure begins, which sets readers up to understand the full scope of her growth across the series. This book ends on quite the cliffhanger that left me not knowing who to trust.
