Fans have long wondered what happened to Ahsoka after she left the Jedi Order near the end of the Clone Wars, and before she re-appeared as the mysterious Rebel operative Fulcrum in Rebels. Finally, her story will begin to be told. Following her experiences with the Jedi and the devastation of Order 66, Ahsoka is unsure she can be part of a larger whole ever again. But her desire to fight the evils of the Empire and protect those who need it will lead her right to Bail Organa, and the Rebel Alliance.
Definitely read this on audiobook if you can, because it’s narrated by Ashley Eckstein who voiced Ahsoka on The Clone Wars series! I enjoyed checking in with Ahsoka one year after the end of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire, as well as Bail Organa during the early, unorganized stages of the Rebellion.
Ahsoka was still incredibly caring and selfless, struggling to find the balance between her ideals, her Jedi training, and her need to hide from the Empire. She ultimately decides that she can best serve and protect vulnerable people in the galaxy by running espionage for the rebels.
I was a little confused by the evil lightsaber-wielders that appeared in the story. I know that this book bridges the gap between Ahsoka’s appearances in The Clone Wars and the Rebels series (the latter of which I have not watched yet), so maybe they are related to that? I also wasn’t quite clear on the Empire’s motivations to invade the moon where Ahsoka was hiding at the beginning of the story, but the Empire doesn’t always have a good reason for being evil.
I really enjoyed the new characters and planets in this book. This is a very solid Star Wars novel!
